Monday, March 27, 2017  is the New Moon in Aries. It is a time to set your sights on what you want and go after them. Diffuse Black Pepper, Frankincense, Rosemary and Lemon to stir the fires of the Aries sign. Use Roman chamomile and Lavender to soften the mind-fire if it is too strong. Aromatize Your Room and Help Prevent Colds at the Same Time.


You can brighten the holiday spirit in your home by diffusing seasonal blends and protecting your family against airborne germs:

For a woodsy smell: Diffuse a blend of: 3 drops of Pine or Fir Essential Oil, 2 drops of Eucalyptus and 1 drop Orange or Neroli Essential Oil.

For a cozy aroma: 6 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil and 3  drops Bergamot Essential Oil

For a spicy room blend: 5 drops of Cinnamon, Allspice, or Ginger Essential Oil with 5 drops of Tangerine, Orange or Neroli Essential Oil

For January 5th and 6th blend: 3 drops Frankincense, 3 drops Myrrh, 2 drops Sandalwood, 1 drop Holy Basil. Celebrate those Magi.

Holiday Feelings Happy or Sad?


Are you excited it’s the holidays? Are you filled with joy, excitement and anticipation?  If you are then fill your home with the scents that call to you and speak to your heart. If you like a foresty kind of atmosphere, use Pine, Spruce, Cedarwood, Juniper or Cypress, Essential Oils or a blend of some of the above in your diffuser.  If you prefer the simmering smells of Cinnamon, Orange and Ginger, use a blend of them and diffuse.

If you enjoy the smells of Santa Fe and the southwest, try Juniper, Palo Santo, Sandalwood and Frankincense with a dash of Black Pepper Essential Oil in a diffuser.

Maybe you prefer the mellow smells of the middle east. Combine Frankincense, Myrrh and Cypress Essential Oils in a diffuser.


If you  are not in sync with the holidays, feel lonely, depressed or despondent use Essential Oils to calm your feelings and bring you out of your sad mood.  Try a blend of Bergamot, Benzoin, Chamomile and Lemon Essential Oils.

You might prefer a floral approach so you can use Ylang-Ylang with Pink Grapefruit and Neroli or Tangerine Essential Oil.


To determine the quantity of fragrance you want smell-test each Essential Oil before you use it. Start with 3 drops of the one you rate first choice. Add 1-2 drops of the one your rate 2nd choice and add 1 drop of your third choice pick. Diffuse tat blend.   If you want to make changes to the measurements do it with your second mixing.

If you have a large diffuser then double the recipe and see how you like it.  It may take a few attempts to find the perfect blend and match for your personality and emotions. Or, you may get really lucky and hit it on the first round.  Remember to enjoy the process and not rush the results.

How To Prevent Colds and Flu

The number one tip for helping to prevent catching a cold or the flu this season is to wash your hands. But it isn’t just a fast and casual pass through running water. There’s an art to washing your hands to ward off the bacteria and viruses that cause colds and flu.
• Use warm water.
• Use real soap. Add a few drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil to liquid soap.
• Sing Happy Birthday to yourself to achieve a full 20 second washing.
• Rinse thoroughly.
• Dry.
• Do this 20-30 times a day.
The second tip is to be aware that germs and bugs pass easily from person to person.
• Avoid touching door knobs, handles, faucets, pens or styluses used for signing credit card or debit purchases, electronic bank machines, car doors and public railings.
• Keep your hands away from your face, lips, eyes and nose.
• Carry a small bottle of home-made hand sanitizer and use it before eating food snacks or sipping on a bottle of water or soft drink. Add 5 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil to a commercial  hand sanitizer or use 1 oz. aloe vera gel with the Essential Oils instead.
• Carry your own pen to use for writing and signing papers, credit card slips and keep yours rubbed down with alcohol every day.
Anti-viral spray:
10 drops Eucalyptus
8 drops Tea Tree EO
5 drops Thyme E
6 drops Lavender EO
3 drops Lemon EO
(You can use this blend in a diffuser or add ¼ cup spring water to a spray bottle and spritz the room several times a day.)

2 drops Tea Tree EO
2 drops Lavender EO
2 drops Eucalyptus EO

How Essential Oils Can Help You Live a Better Life

Last night I was asked to give a presentation for my new book The Healing Art of Essential Oils for my long-time friend and colleague Dr. LJ Rose and her Natural Wellness Academy in Florida. I was happy to know she and her staff weren’t washed away in the recent hurricanes and storms. Grateful! Link to interview;

The people attending the teleconference were primarily students of the Natural Wellness Academy and they had wonderful questions about Essential Oils.  One of the first questions was about the history of Essential Oils. I was happy to share my research that Essential Oils goes way back to many cultures including the Vedas, the Sumerians, the Chinese and the Phoenicians. 320 Liters of Essential Oils were discovered in King Tut’s tomb in 1923. The alabaster jars had been meticulously sealed with special waxes and had retained the  scent of the oils for over 3000 years.

Another question they asked was, “Can you list your top three favorite oils and why?”  I likened the choice to that of a parent with ten children. How can you choose just three? Each one of them has special qualities, applications and charms…how could I limit my choice to only three? Wouldn’t the others feel diminished?  However, I did as requested and selected Lavender, Tea Tree and Lemon Essential Oils.

I selected Lavender Essential Oil for its healing and soothing qualities and because its element is air, its ruling planet is Mercury and its gender is masculine.

I selected Tea Tree Essential Oil for its antiseptic and clearing qualities and because its element is fire, its ruling planet is Jupiter and its gender is feminine.

I selected Lemon Essential Oil for its antibacterial and uplifting qualities  and becasue its element is water, its ruling planet is the moon and its gender is feminine.

In working with Essential Oils I like to consider all of the properties each possesses and represents so I can balance and complement other Essential Oils.

In my book I show how you can heal yourself by using Essential Oils for chakra clearings and balancing, to strengthen the qualities of a given astrological sign and for creating special rituals that have depth and personal meaning for all the major accomplishments in life. That’s why I include the gender, the element and the ruling planet of each Essential Oil.

I was able to leave the students with a green recipe for household window cleaner that doesn’t streak and keeps the chemical toxins of  most OTC cleaners out of the air your breathe. I share it with you here:


In a spray bottle mix 50% water with 50% white vinegar and add 10-20 drops of organic Lemon Essential Oil. Shake well each time you use and see how well it cleans your windows. Note that without the commercial additives of alcohol, it may take you a few more swipes with the rag to achieve dryness, but I don’t mind since I am saving my lungs from the toxic fumes or manufactured window cleaners.
